Pencak Silat Sharaf

Traditional Values. Modern Tactics. Expert Leadership

Founder: Pendekar Hussein

I started out in martial arts as a kid because I needed it. Gangs, drugs, and violence were common where I Iived and as I got more involved with them I experienced that violence first hand. Martial arts was my savior…or so I thought. But as my experience dealing with gangs grew, so did my distrust of martial arts. I got seriously brutalized by gang members when I tried using many techniques in street fights against guys who did boxing or just got out of jail. Then I found Pencak Silat (Indonesian Martial Arts). Things started to change.

As I got older I moved to other places and traveled around the world. I also went deeper into the world of Pencak Silat and the professional use of force through defensive tactics, military combatives, paramedicine/tactical medicine, and firearms. It was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. And it helped me tremendously to focus my experience on the street and make it professional and teachable to other people. It’s technical combat skills that can be applied to violent situations, as well as Martial Strategy that can be applied to your professional and personal life just as effectively.

For me, Pencak Silat has never been a hobby, rather a way of life as it is traditionally taught in Indonesia until today. And Pencak Silat Sharaf is just one branch of a beautiful, effective, martial tree that has roots extending generations of great Pendekars (masters) long before me. It’s my pleasure and my honor to share that knowledge with others of quality and substance who also want to be part of this great heritage we call Pencak Silat of the Nusantara. Either in my home of Penang, Malaysia, my beloved land of Indonesia, or anywhere in between where I might find myself, my family and I welcome you.

Salam Pencak Silat.

Your brother,

Pendekar Hussein

This supportive and respecting spirit has nurtured a group like no other. And we’re very proud of that closeness, openness, and caring we share together on the path of Pencak Silat Sharaf. TUS is also unique in that we have a very experienced cadre of members and advisors that span professions like Law enforcement, the Military, Corrections, Paramedicine, and Security. This consistent, direct input from experienced professionals, active and retired, improves the reality-based training content of the system and continually keeps it at the forefront of what happens on the street. TUS is also a very international organization. Embracing cultures, languages, and religions from the East and West and bringing them together to improve cultural competence in our members and foster a greater respect for humanity as a whole.

Pencak Silat Sharaf System

In 2001 Silat Sharaf, then known as Silat Mubai, was founded by Pendekar Hussein as a simple to learn combatives system based on the Southeast Asian Martial Art of Pencak Silat he learned from his teachers and his extensive street experience spanning multiple continents. The combative techniques of Silat Sharaf were enhanced with martial strategy, and the system improved its focus and sharpened its adherents. The understanding of strategy is far superior than simply understanding how to fight, so Silat Sharaf introduced its adherents and supporters to that deeper level of self-development. We are experienced players in the field of survival. With a cadre of former and active duty medics, prison officers, soldiers, cops, and gangsters-turned-good...we’ve seen it all. And we’re dedicated to bringing you the best-in-class knowledge to overcome anything this planet throws at you.

  • Hand to Hand Combat: punches, knees, elbows, kicks, survival of initial surprise attacks

  • Edged Weapons: knives, machetes, axes

  • Impact Weapons: bats, sticks, poles, tactical batons
